“Sage Coulee Development” – Master Plan, Bismarck, ND

RML Architects and our sub-consultant partners are assisting the MHA Nation with overall development and master planning of the 140-acre Sage Coulee site in the Memory First Addition in north Bismarck.  MHA nation endeavors to create an extensive continuing care treatment program, and outreach services program for local tribal members.  The overall master plan is to be completed in multiple phases of design and construction.  

The Good Road Recovery Center is the first phase of construction for MHA Nation’s on-going substance recovery program.  This project includes the Outpatient Treatment Center, separate male and female Residential Care Cottages, a Sweat Lodge, a BBQ patio, an 88 seat Outdoor Amphitheater and a detached Maintenance Garage.  Located on 22-acres sub-site in within the Sage Coulee area, the treatment program is fully owned and operated by the Three Affiliated Tribes, MHA Nation. Phase 1 was completed in 2018 within the $24.8m budget.

Phase 2, the Sage Coulee Outreach and Wellness Center was opened for operation in June 2020 and Phase 3, the Healing Hearts Lodge Female Transitional Housing facility was dedicated for service in June 2021. Future phases include a Women’s Crisis Safety Center, a Male Transitional Housing Unit, a licensed Community Child Care Facility, a Community Maintenance Facility for the entire Sage Coulee - Memory First Addition, an Outdoor Park, and Independent Living apartments.
