Twin Buttes Elder Care Facility

RML Architects collaborated with Councilman Cory Spotted Bear to bring an elder care campus to MHA’s South Segment.  Mr. Spotted Bear’s goal is to bring tribal elder’s back to the Twin Buttes, ND community by building a state of the art and comfortable home where they can be close to family and friends.  The master plan for the project calls for a continuum of care campus that provides a full range of services offered at different levels to residents depending on their needs. The first phase of the elder care campus begins with independent living twin homes and an assisted living facility.  The second phase will include a skilled nursing facility offering transitional care, rehabilitation services and memory care.

The assisted living facility is a 20, 555 gross square foot, single-story building that includes below-grade resident parking and is part of an overall new neighborhood development on the west side of Twin Buttes. There are 10 apartments that offer a mix of well-appointed studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes that include full kitchens, full baths, washers, and dryers, and high-end finishes. A guest suite is available for family and friends visiting from out of town.

The assisted living facility offers a number of amenities and community spaces for residents and guests.  A large great room with a grand fireplace is the heart of the building and gives an opportunity to chat with friends, read a book, or play exciting board games with grandchildren.  Resident’s may choose to dine with their friends in the community dining room or on the adjacent outdoor patio.  The dining room can also be used for private gatherings with family.  A fitness room gives residents the opportunity to maintain their physical well-being by using exercise machines and stretching areas.  If residents are looking for a cozy place to read or write a letter, a lounge with bookcases and a warm fireplace may be just what they are looking for. It’s located within the resident wing within close distance of apartments.  An on-site barber and beauty salon allows residents to take advantage of those services without having to leave the building.  The shop is also open to the public.  Other resident amenities include a relaxing spa with a jetted tub and massage area, a resident laundry room, a mail and package room, outdoor patios and walking trails to an adjacent playground.  Support spaces include staff offices, a commercial kitchen, a facility laundry and receiving garage.  The building has been planned for an addition of 4 apartments if the owner wishes to proceed in the future.
