Public Safety and Judicial Center (PSJC) – New Town, ND

The MHA Nation Public Safety and Judicial Center houses the Ft. Berthold Police Department and the MHA District Court. The single story, 29,600 SF state of the art “critical infrastructure” facility is designed with a bullet-resistant perimeter enclosure. It hosts the Emergency Operations E911 Center for the Ft. Berthold Indian Reservation with 6 CAD stations, the central police training area and the MHA District Court. The District Court area has 3 modern courtrooms with full video capability, secure holding and a “courtroom in the round” for community justice and the family healing program.

The large glass entry lobby rotunda is used for public gatherings including weddings and features wood glulam columns, cultural murals on the glass and an array of 84 lights to create a starlight night sky affect. Heritage Hall, a central circulation corridor with high clerestory glazing features 3 large Karl Bodmer murals and separates the court and law enforcement functions. Additionally, the facility is equipped with a geothermal HVAC and heat recovery system, redundant electrical back-up systems, emergency communications tower and high efficiency insulated pre-cast concrete walls.

Architect of Record: NTP – While employed at NTP, RML Architects, LLC founder Randall M Lindemann served as the Client Direct Contact, Lead Designer, Project Manager and Project Architect.
